Most canoeists arrive from upriver. You will know you are getting close once you pass through the remains of Backney bridge (large stone pillars of the old railway bridge). Backney bridge is approximately 3km upriver from the club.
Once you pass trough Backney bridge please try and keep to the right hand side of the river.
- It gives a better approach to pass through the rapids (known as "Sheepwash"), which are about 1Km upstream from the club and before you pass under the A40 road bridge.
- Any rowers approaching you upstream from the club will be keeping to your left as you come downstream. It is likely they will not be able to see you as they will have their backs towards you.
- The rules of the river are there to help avoid collisions.
On your final approach there is a beach area on the left hand bank where you find the club steps. (If you see pub called "The Hope and Ancher" you need to paddle back up stream as you have passed the club.)
